<p>Pros of going to Chapman:
+ Already sent SAT/ACTscores
+ Good Journalism program (apparently)
+ Location 30 min away from Los Angeles (could make good connections)</p>
<p>Cons:
- Expensive if out-of-state (I live in FL)
- Already have Bright Futures 100% (really 75%) tuition cost only for FL schools
- No TV station in campus</p>
<p>What do you guys think? Should I apply? The thing is that it is $57,000 a year although I will get Financial Aid because parents income is < 50,000</p>
<p>By the way... Is it really a good school? I am planning to go to University of Miami (in FL where I live) it is also private but don't know if I will get accepted. I have FIU as safety but I really don't wanna go there because they don't have my major...</p>
<p>Maria, Chapman has an outstanding broadcast journalism program, and excellent internship placement. They are generous with merit scholarships, too. Have you called and talked to an admissions counselor?</p>
<p>Chapman is not any more expensive for OOS vs. in-state as they are a private university. Of course, the travel costs could be higher, but still no difference in the tuition.</p>
<p>I currently go to Chapman. I know Chapman does have an excellent film/broadcast journalism program and everyone I’ve met in it seems to love it. Although, I am a journalism student (in the english dept) and there are very few classes to take. It is not a major, it is an english emphasis. Maybe you could major in broadcast journalism and minor in journalism if you end up going? Also, it’s close to LA but not close enough to have an internship (unless of course you have a car and happen to love sitting in traffic) but it could definitely get you some solid connections with fellow students or a summer internship? </p>
<p>My only complaint is that you have to be very certain in your major at chapman. They make it very difficult to take courses outside of your major which can be really frustrating. I would wait and see how much financial aid you get and maybe that will help you make your decision. Good luck!</p>
<p>Maria, It is my understanding that Chapman’s Film department (Dodge College of Film and Media of Arts) is where a majority of their money has been spent over the years. Their B.F.A. in Television and Broadcast Journalism does fall under that. </p>
<p>I would take a look at the class course list (Degree Requirements) [B.F.A</a>. in Television and Broadcast Journalism | Dodge | Chapman University](<a href=“Page Not Found | Chapman University”>Page Not Found | Chapman University) and then compare that list to any other colleges you might be thinking about. Which list has the most classes you WANT to take?</p>
<p>Then look at the money factor: If it is a more expensive school, is it worth the cost to get those extra classes?</p>
<p>If you do end up going to Chapman and you stay in California over the summer and don’t get the internship that you really want and you just can’t seem to get the classes in other subject areas that you also might want to take due to what mmburke93 is talking about, a possibility for you might be to take a summer class or two at Los Angeles Valley College’s Media Arts program. Their program has been around forever and really is amazing.</p>
