Should I apply to Engineering or Science for UCs?

I am going to be a high school senior and enrolling in colleges pretty soon. I am wondering if I am eligible for any of the University of California school. I will write my first SAT is August, and take SAT Subject Tests for Chemistry, US History, and Math for November. Hopefullly my SAT score will be 1450!!!

My cumulative unweighted GPA is 3.75 for 10-12.
The extracurriculars I have for those two majors are being a member of Science Club for two years, member of Cancer Society for threeish years, member of Animal Welfare for one year, member of Physics Club for one year, member of Environmental Club for three years, and member of Mental Health Society for one year. I couldn’t get a leadership role, but I am editor of my school’s literary magazine.

I am not sure if I should start a project for college.

Feel free to ask me questions about my current standing. Honestly I am more open to CSUs as well but I don’t know if I stand good there.

assuming a UCGPA around 4.0, you will probably be competitive applicant for UCR and UCM, UCSC will be a coin toss and the other UCs are probably a reach.

All the CSUs except SLO are likely to accept you.

SDSU, LB and CPP are worth exploring. Chico if you are looking for college town in Northern CA.

First calculate your 3 UCGPA’s. https://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/

UC capped weighted = CSU capped weighted

Using your Capped weighted UC GPA, you want to be at or above the averages to be competitive for STEM.

Test scores are optional however a competitive SAT/ACT and subject tests will help your chances. Apply widely since UC’s tend to be unpredictable.

CSU’s admit by major and only a few campuses will consider an alternate major so make sure you narrow down your interests if you plan to apply to any Cal states.

CS at SJSU may be a difficult admit.

@ucbalumnus true CS at SJSU is probably a reach -but, it looks like the OP expressed interest in more generic science and engineering major.

Last year anyhow, the rest of the STEM majors were within reach with and EI around 4600.

Of course - with the SAT suspension for Fall 21 - all of the impacted CSUs are wildcards next year.
