Should I apply to more schools?

I have been accepted to all my safety schools, and been deferred by two schools. I have yet to be rejected anywhere fortunately. I havent heard from the rest of my schools yet. So I actually have yet to be accepted to any of match or reach schools. I dont really like any of my safeties though. I personally am hoping and expecting to be accepted after being deferred so I am not really sure if I should apply anywhere else.

my advice is don’t apply… u weren’t rejected and if u are u still have ur safety schools

If you can find a safety school that you like, and whose application you can fill out in a few days, do it. Unfortunately, weird cases happen sometimes where applicants are rejected from all of their math/reach schools, so you make sure you have a safety you like and would feel comfortable going to.
Also, I’m sorry to be negative, but don’t EXPECT that you’ll be accepted after being deferred. Very students go from deferred to accepted in the RD pool, so just… be prepared.

I wasnt deferred from ED or anything I was just deferred from a regular old rolling admission based school. So is it more common for students deferred from a state university to be accepted after being deferred than a student deferred ED.

bump…

If you can’t see yourself at any of your safeties, they aren’t true safeties. See if you can find a school where you have a really good shot at admission where you could also be happy. Maybe look at colleges slightly below those that deferred you, for example. I’m sure you’ll get into some of your reaches and matches but it can’t hurt to plan ahead!

imo I think u should have insurance- apply to 1-2 other colleges, of course those that u have to like and have chance. I wouldn’t risk over the deferred choices and stay unhappy with safeties.

Look at being deferred almost like being rejected. There is always a slight chance of getting accepted after being deferred but this is something that you should not count on. If it happens, great–but spend your time focusing on a sure safety where you would be happy attending. If you haven’t been accepted to a safety school that you like, then hurry up, find one or two, and send out the applications ASAP.

i just wanna set something straight here, is being deferred from a regular (not competitive school) state university like being rejected? Or are responses like nysmiles addressed to more competitive schools?

No matter what the school, never count on an acceptance after being deferred. As others have said, there is a slim chance of being accepted but your time will be better spent finding that perfect safety school.

what im trying to get at is is the chance still slim if it is a non prestigous state university. im not saying im not gonna look for a good safety school for me just my top choice is a fairly uncompetitive state university (michigan state) and im wondering if my chances are still slim.

Yes, it’s the same. Check out the link–research some of the college suggestions that posters have given. Because your stats are above a 2.5gpa, some of these schools may be good safeties. A safety school is where your stats are a tad above the average.

Deferral at Georgia public schools means nothing. At GT, 30% of the class is accepted early, and at UGA, at an admissions session they told me deferral means nothing, because if deferred, you have to do your ECs and Essays (EA at UGA is #s only).

Not sure about other schools.

If you have your heart set on attending one of the schools that you got deferred from, contact them one more time. Send them a short note stating your interest in attending and why their particular school over others could help you to reach your goals. It must be written by you and in your own words. Include copies of any additional information that shows an upward trend in your academics and/or any additional awards or recognitions that you’ve earned after sending out your original application. Did your 2nd quarter grades this year show an improvement? Did you make the Honor Roll your 2nd semester? Did you join a new EC or gain a new leadership position since sending out the original application? Does your GC in HS know you well? Would he/she be willing to send one additional note to the admission’s office or would he/she be willing to make one phone call to the admission’s office to talk about your strengths? After giving it one last shot, let it go and see how the scenario plays out. One last shot–make it personal.

In the meantime, find that safety school. You need to have a solid acceptance in your hand to a school where you can envision yourself attending in the fall.

“If you can’t see yourself at any of your safeties, they aren’t true safeties.”

A wonderful mantra. The 11th commandment is “love thy safety.”
