I have a long legacy at Notre Dame (mom, uncles, grandpa) and it’s my top choice. I got a 1320 on my SAT, but I took it again just haven’t gotten my scores back. I have a 4.19 cum GPA (3.83 unweighted) and was curious as to if I should apply early action or regular. Where do I have the better odds?
@jessicaalmarzo My suggestion is to speak about your ND application and circumstances in detail with your regional admission representative and to seek her/his advice in terms of a REA vs. RD application for Notre Dame. It is not a decision to be taken lightly, as possible outcomes may we well differ - either way, depending on specific applicants. Best of luck! By the way, you might want to post Notre Dame specific questions directly in the ND sub-forum/thread.
If you are a legacy, applying REA may be your best choice —

You may want to contact your ND admissions rep. – I have read in other posts that they can be helpful in answering the EA/RD question.

Right now your SAT is well below the 25%th percentile for ND. https://admissions.nd.edu/apply/admission-statistics/ My gut tells me that you should do everything you can to improve your standardized test scores before applying. If the second SAT isn’t better, maybe study for and try the ACT in the fall – some people do better on that exam.
I’d recommend REA if ND is your first choice and financial aid isn’t a major issue. Your score is a bit lower than the benchmark but your legacy status will help, especially if you have strong extracurriculars. And do make the most of your regional rep–they have influence.
REA. Don;t even think otherwise. And I wouldn’t trust everything the admission rep says. My experience with our state rep was not pretty. Honesty wasn’t her strongest suit.
Keep taking the ACT/SAT to get your score up.
My son is a double legacy (mom, Dad ,brother, grandfathers, uncles, etc) He has a 1480 SAT and 4.12 unweighted gpa(out of 4.33) Top 5% at very highly ranked high school. He is taking the SAT again tomorrow… I’ve heard legacies in the “range” should apple REA if it’s your first choice. Do most of you agree? we need to decide soon!!
Yes, I’d have him apply REA @aspen22. Good luck to him!
Thanks for the advice @suzy100. His brother applied REA last year but his stats were signiificantly higher. Would love to have them both out there together!!
If you are not a legacy and not catholic, with no “hook,” what do you recommend for the SAT/ACT scores, GPA, and rank to apply early? @suzy100
