I'm going to be applying to Duke next year (most likely regular decision) and I'm really not sure which I should apply to. I'm interested in majoring in math and/or mechanical engineering.
Some background info:
SAT: 2310 (710 CR 800 Math 800 Writing)
SAT 2: Math 2 800 physics 800 us history 760
GPA: 4.8
Rank: 6/~500

AP's I've taken/ will have taken by the time I graduate:
World History (5), Euro (4), Physics B (5), Psychology (5), Physics C EM, Physics C mech, Calc BC, US history, English Lang, Stats, English Lit, Human Geography

Dual enrollment classes (at top public university in my state) I will have taken before I graduate:
Calc 3, Differential equations, Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, Linear Alg, Mechanics

EC's are decent. A lot of math team stuff, president of math club, president/founder of physics club, etc

Anyways I was wondering what you guys think? I don't think there's any strategical advantage in applying to one over the other, but I may be wrong which is why I'm curious as to what you guys think.

@dn4144: I’ll offer a suggestion and a thought:
a) The thought is much more important. Where do your dreams lie, what are your passions, where do you want to spend the long decades of your professional life? Most of your goals probably can be accomplished from either curricular background, but only you can decide where your heart lies – and that is FAR more critical than which Duke undergraduate school is more likely to admit you.
b) Now for the suggestion; it might be wise to refer to Duke’s Arts and Sciences undergraduate school as Trinity College, a revered element of the University’s history. While initially this may seem like a trivial recommendation, I can promise you that one really does not want to use any other term in your essays, in interviews with alumni, or in discussions with students, faculty or administrators.

There is a strategic difference IMO. It is easier to transfer Pratt to Trinity then the other way around if you change your mind. If you are truly unsure then Pratt. With enough AP credit it is very reasonable to double major if that interests you with no language requirement in Pratt. If you are sure about math then Trinity. Sure about ME Pratt.
