i'm applying to a lot of small, liberal arts schools, but i was hesitant to put trinity on my list. my grandfather and my aunt both went there, and although my grandpa loved my aunt hated it. from what i've heard, a lot of the students there are sterotypical, preppy snob types. is this true, or is that just a nasty rumor? because i really don't want to go to a college where the students are as cliquey as they were in high school.

here are my stats, just to see whether or not i actually even have a chance of getting in:
SAT: 1980 (1280/1600)
ACT: 29
GPA (UW): 3.6
class rank: top 15%
legacy: grandfather and aunt (both on my dad's side) attended
race/gender: white female

national honor society (inducted junior year)

french honor society (inducted freshmen year)

honor roll every year

taken almost all honors each year (the exception being math and science classes)

2 APs my senior year

i have a ton of extra-curriculars, most of it volunteer work/community service, but nothing that i'm sure makes me really stand out. which could be an issue...

so, opinions, anyone? it would be greatly appreciated :)

It might help to know what other schools you have visited and liked. Your stats help us to know you as a student, but knowing what you are looking for in a college, as well as what you liked/disliked on visits would be helpful too.

well, my first choice is hamilton, but i’m not really banking on getting accepted there. what i’m really looking for are school with emphasis on reading/writing skills, schools that offer film majors or minors, etc. i haven’t visited the campus yet, but i’m sure it’s beautiful. what i’m really interested in finding out (and what you can’t really discover on a college tour) is what the student body is like. i’ve heard a lot of negative things about it and i’m not really quite sure why.

Visit the stunning Trinity campus and see for yourself what the atmosphere is like. There is not a “typical” Trinity student, despite the stereotypes that people believe in. There is diversity there and a growing international population. There are alternative social groups to counter the influence of fraternities. Yes, there are “preppy” students, but there is just so much more to the social life there.

Trinity is very strong in emphasizing writing skills. Students must take two writing intensive courses and do a lot of writing in their freshman seminar. The English department is popular and strong and just added a film concentration to the English literature and English creative writing “tracks” in the major. So your main academic interests are sure to be satisfied. You will have professors who will work with you closely on your writing skills and are sure to experience great growth in your abilities. Trinity has a magnificent real movie theater on campus (Cinestudio, complete with a balcony and red curtain!) that is a cultural magnet in Hartford showing foreign and independent films. What a great resource for a potential film major.
