Should I apply undecided. Please help and see thread please!

Should I apply undecided and apply to the school of textiles or something that is generally easier to get into and then do good my first year of college and transfer into a school I want to get in like school of engineering? (The first 2 years of college are the same classes no matter what school) That way I can get into the college I want to and then do the major I also want to. I know someone at state who did this, but I want to know if I can do this at UNC - chapel Hill or VCU?

Thanks!

There’s a big difference between changing majors and changing colleges within the same university. When you apply to a large university with multiple schools, you apply to one school. If you are an undecided major, then you’ll be applying to the College of Arts and Sciences. To switch to a professional school like engineering or textiles will likely require a separate application process, though this may be less strenuous at some schools (Duke, for one, said that they have several kids move between engineering and arts and sciences each year).

Also know that engineering majors often have separate graduation/distribution requirements than their liberal arts counterparts. It isn’t true that the first two years of college will be the same anywhere, so I recommend applying to the college you plan on graduating from unless you’re willing to place your bets on an uncertain admission to another college and have the money to spend on an extra year or two of college.
