Should I Apply

Hey y'all!
I'm a junior going on senior and I want to know: do I have a chance at Rice?

I live in Connecticut and my high school is super competitive. So basically zero geographic diversity over here. Also, I'm white and female (thanks a lot, God!!).

I just took the SATs in June for the first time, without studying. I got a 2100, and I plan to study over this summer and take them in the fall. Our school doesn't do GPA's (we do this really weird cumulative scale thing) but through simple addition and averaging my sophomore (unweighted) average was an A (it was a 93 and some change, I had all A's and 2 A-'s) and my junior GPA is a 90, unweighted. I'm in the first decile for my class (about 250ish kids) and make the Honor/high Honor roll every quarter, but there are definitely much more academically impressive kids than me.

Soph year I took PE, Concert Choir, World Issues, Honors English, French 3, Latin 2, Honors Chem, and Algebra 2.

Jr year I did Honors English, AP US History, Latin 3, Honors Pre-Calculus, Honors French 4, and AP Bio.

So for extracurricularz I do French, Latin and National Honor Society (co-historian.) I was the co-prez for our Environmental Club, and I sing in my church choir. I'm also a Girl Scout and I'm working on my Gold Award. I was in youth group at my church, regularly serve as an altar girl, and also play piano.

I run track and xc, and I'm captain next year for xc and indoor. I don't plan on competing for Georgetown if I get admitted because I don't want my life to be engulfed by running. I'm pretty decent though and made All-Conference and All-State in xc and track this year. I also have the school record in the 2 mile and have a pretty good chance at being All-new England next year if I train.

Finally (sorry for this saga!) I'm not your typical Connecticut rich girl, so I'd need financial aid (both my older bros go to college). My family's pretty middle class. Would I have a shot, or should I not apply?

With a bit of work on your SAT score (study hard!), and a passionate essay, you’d have a good shot! Don’t sell yourself short.

Good luck!!
