I am a 11th public school student from Puerto Rico.

SAT: Waiting for scores. Was scoring around 550's in Princeton review practice tests but im studying to get at least 750's. Taking Physics Math II and Spanish on May 5th.

GPA: 4.0 in high school (I was wondering, here in P.R. high school starts in 10th grade will U.S. colleges ask for middle school transcripts also?)

I am the top student of my grade of around 13 groups. I play soccer since 5th grade in both school team and the town team. I have around 80 community hours. I'm in the science club this year and probably the next too. Doing a science fair project this year. Going to take college level courses hopefully in March. I can speak English, Spanish and Arabic(intermediate level- read, write, understand and engage in very basic conversation). I'm half arabic half puertorican. Can program and fix computers, know basic PHP and C++ programming.

I plan on applying to:

MIT
Harvard College
Columbia University
Princeton University

What are my chances? Any recommendations on what to do?

As for the transcripts, the best thing is contact each school and find out. I’m sure it’s something they’ve dealt with before and should be able to give you an easy answer. If you don’t get your SAT scores up, I don’t think any of the colleges you list will be a possibility unless you are doing something very unique and in-depth on your own. The problem is that it’s a matter of numbers, every year there are more people who want to go to these schools but the schools aren’t making their classes any larger.

You need to find some match schools and some safety schools. You also need to consider cost–how will you pay for it. Although I don’t think it’s the best approach, you can go to US News College rankings and start looking at other colleges. I would suggest visiting Study Hacks [Study Hacks](Study Hacks - Decoding Patterns of Success - Cal Newport) and also looking at Colleges That Change Lives (a website and a book) Another good resource is the College Solution which is also a website and a book. There are many very good colleges that people have never heard of. You just have to be willing to look beyond the brand names.

Thanks for the feedbacks really needed them! So if I get my SAT’s around 750’s am I a good candidate??? And for sure I’m going to star considering more modest colleges just to play it safe.

Are you planning to study computer science or engineering? Are you trying to stay on the east coast? Do you need a lot of financial aid? We need more info about what you are looking for if we are going to offer suggestions.

Yes I’m planning to study computer engineering or aerospace engineering, but most probably the first one. I hope to stay around the northeast coast or tri-state area. My mom is a teacher here in PR and she’s like a year away from retirement and 2 years from getting social security. Her annual income is 30,000 and I just live with her. So I need a lot of help!

Harvard doesn’t have aerospace engineering. They have Engineering and Applies Sciences. One sure way to get rejected from a school is to apply for a major or dept. that doesn’t exist there.

gsmadi, you may be qualified, but many many many qualified candidates get turned down by these schools. Every year ten times as many students apply to these schools as they can accept. You need to expand your list to include schools that aren’t as selective. Unless you stand out in some amazing way BESIDES being qualified – like you’re Madonna’s daughter, or your family donated a library, or you’re from Mongolia – no one is a shoo-in for any of the schools you mention. They are reach schools for almost everyone.

There are 67 schools that offer aerospace engineering as a major [College Navigator - Search Results](<a href=“College Navigator - Search Results”>College Navigator - Search Results). There are probably plenty more where you major in something else but specialize in aerospace. You might play with the list with different test scores and locations.
