Hello everyone. For the past year, I've gotten at least a 96 in my AP Language and Comp. class for each quarter. In preparation for the AP Lang Exam, I took two practice exams and received 5's on both. Also, I've never received anything lower than a 7 on a practice essay this year.

When I took the exam, I felt very confident that I was going to get a 5 or a 4 on this AP Lang Exam. However, I earned a 3. I'm just very shocked and I honestly don't know where I went wrong. I know it sounds like I might just be in denial... but should I just take the extra step and make sure I earned the grade I received? Has anyone gone through the regrading process before? Thanks!

You can pay for the service and get peace of mind but you will almost definitely not get an improved score. The thing that probably happened was that you were a good writer for your class but not at that level on the national scale and then probably misinterpreted a passage on the multiple choice. If you don’t care about the twenty five bucks or so order the rescore and your free-response booklet

I would agree that your score probably won’t go up. Unfortunately that’s how AP tests go sometimes. It won’t hurt to rescore but it also probably won’t help.

It also happened to my son.
He got A in both semesters of AP Lang Eng class but scored a 3 on the AP exam.
He was warned that the teacher won’t prepare her students well for the test.
Obviously he didn’t listen as it was the first year that he took any AP exam.
And he then went on scored all 5s in other 5 tests.

It could just be an imbalance between your teacher’s system of grading and how CollegeBoard graded your exam. The teachers that I’ve had have made a conscious effort to make it so that if you get an A in their class, you’ll end up with a 5 on the exam, but lots of teachers don’t do that. Also, AP Lang is hard because the essays can literally be on anything, and if it’s on a topic that you aren’t familiar with, no matter how well you’ve done in the class, you aren’t going to do great. I know my AP Lang teacher grades essays harder than the real ones, so if you get a 5 or a 6, by CollegeBoard standards, it’ll probably be a 7 or an 8.
