Should I ask this teacher for a rec?

Over this year, I have grown close to one of my teachers and I think he knows me well and would show that I am a hard worker in a rec. He has given me compliments on my character and I believe he likes me. Still he teaches my publications class where we made the yearbook and newspaper for a grade. I have enjoyed it but wonder if colleges would look down on this. Do you all think I should ask him for the rec or should I ask a teacher in a more conventional subject to write it even though they may not know me as well?

any teacher that can give insight to your character is probably good. i'm sure just about any teacher can say "this student works hard, gets good grades, etc." about their student, which doesn't really give an edge in the admissions process.

However, keep in mind that most colleges ask for a reccomendation letter from a teacher in one of the core subjects- and they specifically outline it. Essentially, math, science, social studies, english, and foreign languages are the five domains. I believe, in many cases, classes like Psych, Art History, PUBLICATION( Yearbook, etc) do not fall under the two required letter's criterion. However, you may be able to submit it as a supplemental rec, contingent on the college.
