looks like im moving main boards since I didn’t get into UCSD. I’m strongly leaning towards UCD since it’s got a pretty good comm. program and i like the suburb atmosphere

but i’m not sure if i want to take up syracuse with that half ride or univ of arizona with that full ride i didn’t get any $$ from ucd since im only a mediocre student

syracuse has a really strong comm. program but the location is terrible and even with half ride i’ll still have to pay around 20-25k

ucd is in state and its really a nice place to live around 25k

or arizona but it stoops down in terms of prestige and preference but hey its almost free

Go to UCD. The people on this forum should be a pleasant reflection of how passionate students are about learning and their school. Communications would probably require some school outside of just college, and that's where UCD will help far more than Syracuse and U of A. This one guy got into Harvard Law with a 3.5 (the average/requirement was a 3.7 or something), but it was because he was from CalTech. The same thing applies to you. If the requirements for the grad school you want to go to are somewhat higher than your circumstances, going to a more rigorous and selective school will allow them to bend the rules a little bit.

but i heard that syracuse has a bit more leverage on the east coast concerning grad school. Davis is my choice for living and cost and stuff but Syracuse is where I should be in terms of preparing for my career

j0ey0ey,

What career are you planning on pursuing? I'm a first-year communication major at UC Davis and I have to say that the program is exceptional.

I plan on being a sports journalist. My communication classes have been very solid and I've already been given many opportunities to experience my future career today. In my short stay at UCD, I've already become the executive editor of a baseball website - plenty of preparation chances here. Let me know if you have any other questions; I can try and help out.

mm i was thinking more on the lines or broadcast as my career

are classes in the comm department at UCD lectures based? or discussions based

Broadcasting - nice. I've done some work with KDVS, UC Davis radio station, for sports talk as well. The classes are definitely lecture-based, like pretty much every other class on campus. I did take CMN1 this past quarter - it's just one our of lecture with three hours of discussion per week, so you can find variation.
