I'm paralyzed by indecision about college.

An article in Time (referring to an article in Science) says that strangers are better at predicting what people will like/dislike than people themselves. Therefore, please vote on where I should attend college.

CCRunner, Olin has very limited offerings. We are talking about a university with 30 faculty members. It is free and good, but given how young it is, I would say it is still developping an identity. As such, it is not for everybody. Those who fit will not think twice, most students probably won’t fit though.

jjsdad, if the OP were interested in studying Arts and Sciences, I could see why you would say Columbia or Penn, although even then, they aren’t better than Michigan. However, in Engineering, Michigan is actually better.

Either way, regardless of major and quality of academics (the differences are debatable and not that significant, particularly in the Arts and Sciences, not so much so in Engineering), I think the campus environment at all three schools is sifficiently different to safely say that fit is an important criterion. As such, I definitely recommend she go for fit. For example, the OP stated that she likes cycling. For cyclists, Michigan probably makes more sense than Columbia or Penn. Of course, that is just one criterion. She really needs to look at the big picture.
