Should I be applying for college right now? (going to be senior in high school)

My parents say I need to be applying. Yet on some college websites they still have the Fall 2012 application. So I don't know if I should be applying or not. I was going to start in August or late July, but apparently I'm supposed to in June.
Anyone know when I apply?

You don’t start until the school year starts. The Common Application opens on August 1st and early deadlines are in October or so. Regular deadlines are this winter.

For now, take the time to decide what colleges you want to apply to, and (in your case), figure out some things you want to major in.

If any of your schools use the Common Application you could start on the essay for that because it is the same each year. That’s what I’m planning on doing for the next month until the application is open

You can start some essays now, but applying is done later (October for early, winter for normal). If you’re planning on applying out of country then those deadlines are also usually early.

As far as essays, the common app one doesn’t change to my knowledge so you should definitely start that one. Each school varies, but some don’t change year to year and you could start those as well. Dont worry about applying, make a college list and start some essays and you’ll be ahead of the game.

Start working on your essays right now.

My senior year of high school, I got really busy with school, football, and re-taking the ACT test. As a result, I got lazy and ended up not applying to a few schools I had in mind (Northwestern and U of Chicago).
