Top choice is NYU. Other schools I'm applying to: Boston College, Boston University, Northeastern, Georgetown, George Washington, Columbia

STATS
Weighted gpa: 4.04
SAT: 1730
Father was born in Bangladesh
Extracurriculars: class president, student council member, NHS member, NHSHSS member, community service club member, president of prom committee, model United Nations club member, dutch exchange program in 2012, volunteer at soldiers home, volunteer at soup kitchen, part time job at a local restaurant

Replace at least half of the reach schools to match ones too, unless you only plan to go to your safety school. By the way, what is your UW GPA in 4.0 scale?

With all grades at A- or above, you have 4.0. Good job. Try to improve your SAT to 2000 or higher if you want to apply to these schools. It is feasible if you work hard over the summer to prepare for the test in October.

Your SAT is very weak. As an international student, you would have a lot more trouble getting into schools compared to a U.S. student. Try to get it above a 2200 so your reaches will match a bit better!

^ I don’t think he is an international student but a first generation is the US. Telling someone with SAT 1730 to get 2200+ is not very realistic. Collegeboard may even suspend the score release. However, it is feasible to get 2000+ after working hard over the summer.

I’m a US citizen. 1730 was also my first time with no studying. I plan to take them again May 4th. I know 1730 isn’t a great score but I thought as a startin point it’s okay and that with my ec’s I would be making up for it somewhat. Am I wrong?

That means you have received A minuses. How many?
So perhaps you are closer to a 3.8
I would agree to get your SAT up. What do you intend to study?

If you do get your SAT up you are a good candidate for all, except Columbia. Columbia I think is a reach for anyone.

For Georgetown, they also like to see your SAT score from Junior year and they like to see 3 subject tests (though I have seen some not submitting but may make your case stronger).

I agree probably closer to a 3.8. I intend to eventually go to law school so my major would be politics or law depending on the school and what they offer. Does anyone have tips on how to raise SAT score?

To increase SAT score, take lots and lots of practice tests and review your responses both to your incorrect replies and ones where you guessed. Take practice tests under timed test conditions, allowing yourself the breaks you would receive during the actual exam.

The College Board’s blue book contains ten practice tests. Good luck!

I agree with CT. Reviewing your incorrect responses is crucial otherwise you will never learn and keep making the same mistakes. I tried telling that to my son but he doesn’t listen. Ah vell.

^ This is the scale for schools that consider subgrades. There are many schools don’t consider subgrades (i.e. A+=A=A-=4.0, B+=B=B-=3.0, etc). You need to check each school how they calculate. Also, many schools don’t count freshman grades while others do.
But you are right, NYU does count subgrades.

NYU - Reach
Boston College - Reach
Boston University - Reach
Northeastern - Low Reach
Georgetown - Reach
George Washington - High Reach
Columbia - High Reach

Number one priority needs to be upping that SAT! Pretty good application otherwise, but the standardized test score is going to be very important in the admission process.

GPA is pretty good but SAT needs improvement for those schools. Can you retake it? At this point:
NYU: Low Reach
BC: Reach
BU: Low Reach
NEU: Reach
Georgetown: Reach
Columbia: Reach
GWU: Low Reach
