Are these just peculiarities and not signs of a psychological problem?
-He leaves the light on at night (not the main light but enough light that I could see light when I close my eyes). I have to wear a sleeping mask to fall asleep.
-He locks the door every single time he leaves the room, even if I'm in it, and even if he's just going to the bathroom.
-He inspects my skin rashes very closely and asks in detail about my health history if I show signs of something that could be taken as a symptom of a disease.
-He asks about stuff on my desk and what they're for. He was particularly concerned about the isopropyl alcohol (which I use for cleaning surfaces and such).
-Windows are always shut even if it's hot.

He might just have OCD...along with a phobia of germs...

and be afraid of the dark..
hopefully, you will be with a better roommate next year

-He locks the door every single time he leaves the room, even if I'm in it, and even if he's just going to the bathroom.

That sounds like a good thing to me. I heard about a lot of laptop thefts going on at some school, I think the guy was just walking through the dorms, going into unlocked, empty rooms, and just taking the laptops. If I lived on a dorm, I'd tell my roommate to lock the every time he leaves and I'd do the same. Although I think that the burden of locking the door should be on the last person to leave the room, so I think that he doesn't really need to lock it if you're in there, only if it's empty.

Some of that other stuff sounds a little odd though, especially about the rashes, that sounds like an invasion of privacy, IMO.

Well, I actually sleep with a light on...though I think it's more out of habbit from a young age because I can sleep just fine without the light (I just like being able to see a little if I wake up to go to the bathroom or something :S). If I turn my head towards the light and don't cover myself up with the blankets, I guess I can see the light, but I'm just so use to it :S

On the other hand, I have a hard time sleeping with lots of light :-P

if you arn't in the room, I think that's great (I would want a roomate like that!), but, it seems weird to constantly be locking it like that :S I imagine it would be nice to socialize with other people in the residence hall and not have it locked up when you are in there :S

The other stuff is weird. >_> The lighting and locking I can see being done out of habit (but a habit that could be broken easily), but the other stuff seems like paranoia or something :S Have you talked with your roommate about it or with whoever negotiates stuff in the residence hall if it is a real problem for you?

my roommate ALWAYS wants the curtains closed. Even at 2 pm, she'll have the curtains closed.

These aren't too bad, actually, compared to a lot of others I've read about here.

** he is afraid of dark. be generous
-He locks the door every single time he leaves the room, even if I'm in it, and even if he's just going to the bathroom.
if you came from a country like indonesia,,sure,,youll do that. cant trust your belongings to anyone. but thats kinda weird if youre still in the room. tell him/her that you can be trust.
-He inspects my skin rashes very closely and asks in detail about my health history if I show signs of something that could be taken as a symptom of a disease.
*if you came from a country like indonesia that has all kinds of sickness,,you will want to be as safe as possible.. ill ask my roomate too if she has nasty rashes (politely).
-He asks about stuff on my desk and what they're for. He was particularly concerned about the isopropyl alcohol (which I use for cleaning surfaces and such).
* THATS annoying
-Windows are always shut even if it's hot.
**if youre an indonesian,,thats pretty much normal. in my hometown, i honestly never open my car/room window even if it is 90F outside.. its just weird to let anyone see your room and its not safe. i realized that's weird for people in here since its cold almost of the time and we should appreciate the hot summer. so i tried to adjust.

talk to your roomate..ask why he/she did that.

Chances are he is from America.

if my roomies had skin rashes, I would ask as well...soe are contagious

and what in the world is wrong with asking about some chemical you have on your desk

I think you have your own stuff--rashes, alcohol for cleaning surfaces, can't sleep with a night light

if your rashes are noticiable, might wnat to get them checked out

if more guys had their feet taken care of, people wouldnt have to wear shoes in the shower

and as for locking the door, big deal....maybe its a way to remind you to lock the door if you leave the room, and he figures if he does it everytime, if stuff is taken, it won't be his fault

the windows, well, that would be something else, but the rest of it,,,,no big deal

-He leaves the light on at night (not the main light but enough light that I could see light when I close my eyes). I have to wear a sleeping mask to fall asleep.
** All lights off, please.
-He locks the door every single time he leaves the room, even if I'm in it, and even if he's just going to the bathroom.
** Not bad. At least it prevents random thefts.
-He inspects my skin rashes very closely and asks in detail about my health history if I show signs of something that could be taken as a symptom of a disease.
** Whoa there..
-He asks about stuff on my desk and what they're for. He was particularly concerned about the isopropyl alcohol (which I use for cleaning surfaces and such).
** Personal privacy.
-Windows are always shut even if it's hot.
* BIG NO NO. I'm a big advocate of room ventilation. Open it when I wake up and close it before I go to sleep.

People don't wear sandals in the shower because of other people's feet, at least not as the main reason. They're more concerned with the idea that other people may be peeing, shaving, or masturbating in the shower.
