The teachers who wrote my letters of recommendation said they submitted them on January 2nd, but today I checked my application status and it said it still wasn't processed/received. Does Columbia usually take this long to process letters of rec?

My D's teacher rec was sent in the middle of December, and it was just recorded as 'Received' today. It takes time to process
a ton of paperwork that they must have now at least till mid February. I wouldn't worry, not just yet.

Certainly no need to worry now, but don't forget about it either. There could very well have been a problem preventing the letter from getting to admissions...it wouldn't hurt to at least have your counselor call the admissions office and ask about your letter specifically.

But yeah, the delay is most likely due to the time it takes to process tens of thousands of applications. Keep checking. It will probably turn up in a few weeks.

My teacher sent hers late December and just a few days ago Columbia said they processed it. So it takes about a month. Patience. :) (I know how you feel though, I've been checking it anxiously everyday since around Jan 6...)

call them they'll be more than happy to check for you
and don't worry the ppl that answer the calls are undergrad/grad volunteers/workers won't affect your decision
