As a sophomore in high school who has a decent idea of which colleges I am considering, should I be contacting admissions officers?

If so, what should I be inquiring about/what is the point of the communication?

Uh... why call them if you don't know why you're calling them?

I would first figure out why you are calling them and then call as a last resort. If you don't hear from them or if you have a specific question, it helps to call. Otherwise, just go through the normal process.

E-mail would most likely be the best idea.
You should do a lot of your own college research beforehand and then email them with specific questions you want answered. Don't ask them with the intention of telling them you're a sophmore who is interested in your school. There's no point to that. Also, don't e-mail them now. E-mail them after January! They're probably reading essays and determining the fate of current applicants right now.

Alrighty, thanks. I wasn't sure whether just getting your name in their books was a necessary step to boost your chances.
