Should I be in top 1% to apply for the PLME?

Just curious b/c I am in like top 10% at a small but very competitive school. My standardized test scores are pretty good, but I think my GC wouldn’t write me a good rec if i apply. :(

Make sure your GC writes a good rec, that is crucial. Do whatever you can to get the best possible rec letter.

can you stop asking so many obnoxious questions? you're obviously qualified, but you continue to portray this false modesty to boost your ego. please find something better to do with your time.

can u stop posting obnoxious replies? I'm just askin ppl b/c my GC said, "You gotta be #1 in your class or you have no chance for the PLME."

No offense, but your counselor must be full of crap. Does he/she have the statistics for every single student that has entered the program in the history of PLME? Your GC doesn't seem to be very competent if he/she is making unsubstantiated statements like that. Obviously, you have to have a strong application, but I doubt it's true that not being the valedictorian of your class will immediately destroy your chances. That being said, I'm not so sure of the stats of PLME students myself, so I am being a bit hypocritical in that sense. Lastly, amor caelestis has a very valid point; I've been thinking the same thing myself. You've been flooding this board with exactly the same question, just worded in a different format. If you'd like to apply to PLME, then by all means, do so. You'll never know what your chances are unless you apply. Good luck!

also, the stupidity of your GC makes me question the competitiveness of your school.

Actually, Brown's PLME brochure itself states that "Students in the freshman PLME class were generally among the top 1% in their high school class..."

However I think that good recs and essays and stuff are more important than being in the top 1%, especially considering it's hard to get up there in a few months.
