I know it’s just January and I shouldn’t be freaking out, but I came back to school today and I heard a lot of acquaintances say they already heard (accepted) from Cal Poly Pomona, etc. I applied to 7 CSUs : CSUFull, CSULA, CSULB, CSUDH, San Jose, San Diego and Cal Poly Pomona. Do I have a chance at any? :((
If it helps, I have calculated my EI : 4,480 (using SAT) and 1,050 (Using ACT)
I’ve had almost a straight A transcript all throughout HS (I think I only have 3 Bs!)
AP Senior Coursework : Stage Team, Physics, AP Stats, AP English Lit., AP US Gov, Calculus
First Semester GPA: 4.5
Last time i checked i was 19/600+students but I’m hoping that changes after my first semester grades get calculated.
Major I applied with: Finance (Business)
When can i expect to hear from them?
Also, is it a good sign that some are requesting 7th semester transcripts? Like, will my 4.5 1st semester look impressive enough to influence their decision?
The CSU’s accept more on a rolling basis and majority of CSU’s will send decisions starting in February. Some high stat (honors college candidates) and OOS applicants have heard from a few campuses such as CSU Fullerton, SDSU, CPP but that does not mean you are not competitive, which you are.
Have you checked all your CSU application portals to make sure all your required documents have been received?and yes getting a request for 7th semester transcripts is always a good sign and doing will have a positive impact on your chances.
Hang in there and you should be hearing within the next month. Good Luck.
@Gumbymom What exactly is rolling basis? Does submitting an application earlier mean you will most likely hear from universities earlier? (I applied Nov. 29)
Submitting early does not mean you hear earlier. Rolling basis means the CSU’s do not notify all applicants at the same time. Decisions for some schools start in December and will continue until March. When you look at the # of applicants for CSULB 90,000+ or SDSU 84,00+, that is a lot of applications to sort through. Like I said you look competitive so you should be hearing soon. Are any of the schools your local in-service area school? Usually you hear from you local school first.
Unfortunately no, most schools are pretty far. Sorry for all the questions, but will being classified as a non resident affect my chances? As I explained in another discussion I might have made a mistake or something because my status for all schools is “CA non resident” when I know I am. Can I fix this mistake now or is that too late? @Gumbymom
Yes, being a non-resident can affect your chances. Priority is given to in-state applicants. Did you email all the CSU’s with the correction information? I could also call and let them know. No it is not too late, but you need to care of the mistake.
How do I format that email? @Gumbymom I don’t want to be informal or anything
@beloved18: I would put in the heading: Residency Mistake on CSU application. Make sure you give your application ID#, Name, SSN# (if you put it on the application or if you have one) and then explain that you accidentally marked that you were a non-resident on the application. You should state that you could offer proof in the form of HS transcripts indicating you graduated from a California HS etc… if needed. I would follow up the email with a phone call to make sure that someon in admissions received and reviewed the email.
