Should I be worried?

So I live in Virginia and I want to go to Virginia Tech and possibly major in computer science or something related to that. I'm a rising junior, and during my sophomore year, I took Math Analysis (which is Precalc, Calc AB, and part of Calc BC in one year) and had an average of a B-. According to the Virginia Tech website, you're good if you maintain an A/B+ range throughout high school. I'm going to be taking really advanced stuff junior year, like Computer Math (basically an introductory JAVA course), AP Calc AB, AP Language and Composition, AP US History, Physics, and Chemistry. My PSAT score from sophomore year was 188, and I'm currently taking an SAT prep course which will hopefully get my score to a 2000 or above. I don't have any leadership positions but I will be running for Secretary of my school's creative writing club and during my senior year, I do have a chance of becoming captain of the varsity tennis team. I know I haven't been doing nearly as much as a lot of people, but...should I be worried when the time comes to apply for college?

Hey! I think I have the same problems as you. Same PSAT score and even some of the same classes. I will be taking 5 AP’s next semester and want to join more clubs. I am the historian for DECA and plan to get more involved but I’m scared because of all the stuff I’ve read on some of these posts. Do you know your GPA?

It’s nice to know I’m not the only one. My GPA is a 4.23. What APs are you taking?

I’m gonna take AP: Lang, Physics, Calc, Psychology, and U.S. History. Plus maybe somthing easy online later on in the year. What I’m really worried about are my EC’s, I gotta get really involved next year but at the same time I have to do somthing that I want to do, you know?

I totally understand. Do you know what you want to do in college? I know I want to do something in computers or IT, so I’m taking Computer Math to see if I like doing that kind of stuff.

It can depend on where you’re from. Are you out of state or in VA? Are you from NOVA? VT is particularly regional about admissions. But you sound like you’re in good shape. Just make sure you’re hitting the books hard junior year and take the SAT seriously. And go fir the leadership positions. They can be fun and help you in the long run. If you’re still worried, check out the VT section on CC and I’m sure ChrisTKD or Chuy could give some insight.

I want to go into Finance so I am in the Finance Academy at my school, I’m taking AP Calc my junior year and I really want to do well at DECA competition.

@VaCollegeGirl, I live in northern VA. Psh, I’m hitting the books in the SUMMER. I’m planning to take the SAT in October and the SAT Subject Tests for math and English sometime after Christmas Break. And then I’m going to do my SAT Subject Test for physics at the end of the year, along with my AP exams (US History, Language and Comp, and Calc AB). It’s gonna be a GREAT year. Oh, and I’ll definitely check that out, thanks!

@jesilis, I’m doing AP Calc as well. AB or BC? I did DECA my freshman year, but I couldn’t do the competition. However I did FBLA sophomore year and participated in a Word Processing event and got 3rd place in my region. So that’ll be something to put in the college apps… :P
