In my mymit checklist, the transcript, rec A and B, are all unchecked right now. Rec A and B i can understand, but my guidance dept said they mailed out my transcript a while ago. How long does it take to process? Hopefully it doesn't have to be checked by nov1st does it??

Mine was mailed on 10/18 and they got it on 10/24. No, i think it just has to be postmarked by 11/1.

My counselor sent them out today, the postmark date is all that matters.

alright im just worried about some sort of crazy error that occurs resulting in them not getting my transcript or recs. i'll just keep waiting...

Your materials don't need to be checked off by November 1.

Toward the deadline, it does take the mail room a while to get everything processed -- don't forget that they're sorting all of the materials for several thousand other kids. If it's a week or so past the deadline and those forms still aren't processed, you might consider giving the admissions office a call, but that still wouldn't be a reason to panic; if your forms were lost by the USPS, you'd be able to fax them to MIT, no problem. The admissions office doesn't start to make EA decisions until around the first week of December.

my school informed me that they sent out my transcript on 10/11....and it still hasnt been processed. Is this normal, our should I email/call just in case.

I'm nervous because I mailed my essay in separately because of formatting. I used USPS Certified Mail, so the recipient has to sign it. I mailed it 5 days ago and it still doesn't say "received" on the USPS website. Do you guys think that if my essay was lost in the mail, MIT would let me send it in again? Would it look negatively toward me? I'm dying a slow, torturous death over here... I would be relaxed if it was only something like a transcript or teacher recommendation, but the essay is probably the most important part of the app! =

They look pretty flexible. Do you have some kind of record that you mailed it? Even if you don't, they'd probably let you resend.

You could resend to ease your nerves...

Doesn't MIT send you a notice of all the things that you're missing in November? Things getting lost in the mail isn't your fault, and MIT knows that. They'll probably give you a chance to send your stuff again.

They would let you send it again, and it would not be a problem -- I mean, how would it be your fault if the postal service lost your essay? If you want, you could fax it. That way, it would get to MIT very quickly, and you would be pretty sure it had arrived. :)

Also, from Matt, here:

Please give mailed materials (e.g. recommendations, etc.) time to show up on the tracking system. We are opening a lot of mail right now, and it takes substantial time to process all of these forms that come in right at the deadline.
