Should I be worried?

I started working on my financial aid, and only a few days I noticed that Vassar wanted our tax returns, etc. by January 1. It didn't even occur to me that they'd want that earlier than the FAFSA. I was thinking I would just have it in by February 1, since that's when most of my other financial aid stuff is due and I will have everything compiled, as it's quite late already anyway.

What do you think?

fedex it in

I did the same thing ShanFan, and was also wondering how this will impact financial aid packages. I already sent them all of my other forms (Profile, FAFSA, ect), but I'm not sure how this'll impact us.

How can you send your tax returns in by January 1st, when you haven't even gotten your W-2s yet? My accountant will not even do the taxes without those. I called Vassar, and they told me that all was due in April.

It's the 2006 tax forms that they are talking about. The financial aid deadlines page on the website says Vassar wants the 2006 form by Jan. 1 for RD. We had to submit them even earlier for ED.

What happens when you forget to send them in with your app? I just realized that I made this mistake as well, and phoned the finaid office...but they've all already left for the day...

Why would they want this particular part of the package so soon anyhow?

I think it was probably more important for the ED and EDII applicants. For RD applicants the 2007 tax form is probably more important, so it might not be a big deal as long as you meet the FAFSA and CSS deadlines.

Yeah, I think I'm going to make sure they get it by Feb. 1, along with FAFSA and CSS. I emailed them and they told me just to have it in as soon as possible.
