Should I be worried?

I am sending the boarding school I am applying to a few writing samples. I also have them posted online on a website called TeenInk. I don't want them to think I am copying. I don't want to, but if i must I will erase my TeenInk account. Should I?

I wouldn’t suggest erasing your account. Why not just take down the particular pieces that you are sending?

Why don’t you indicate on the writing samples that they were published on TeenInk. My d submitted writing samples and for those that were published she indicated that in the portfolio.

Why not tell them that you publish your work on TeenInk? Couldn’t you prove the account was yours–maybe send the username and password so they could verify if they wanted to? I think it’s pretty cool that you publish your stuff online, and it’s something you could use in your favor, not hide.

Just tell them. There is no erasing from the internet these days. You would be surprised what Google keeps in it’s cached histories going back years. Some sites are gone and are still catalogued in the image files.

Just be upfront about it, especially if these are just supplements to your application, not required essays.

But — if the expectation is that you are supposed to send “new” writing samples, I would recommend taking the route of creating fresh ones.

Good luck.

thanks. They don’t have to be new. I’m just going to say it’s published on the website.
