I’m bringing this over. I haven’t gotten any responses so I figured I’d ask here.

What is your class ranking? I'm not familiar with the "5.0" grade point average system.

Also have you thought about taking the ACT to pull up the score? My son did much better on that than his SAT.

My ranking is 15 out of 256 (give or take a few from the total). The 5.6 is just the extra points you get for Honors/AP classes. You only receive points if you get an A, B, or C and the number depends on which one. I remember my sophomore year someone graduated with a 6.5 weighted.

I have thought about taking the ACT. Still debating.

Only on CC would someone describe your SATs as "bombing"...:)

If I were you, I would definitely consider the ACTs. My daughter also "bombed" the SATs (her total scores are even lower than yours), but she did significantly better on the ACTs. And she just got an e-mail back from Brandeis, answering some of her questions relative to her test scores. They stated that they really have no preference between the SATs and ACTs, and test scores factor in at about 27% of their consideration of your total application.

I know lots of people at school who, like you, had good grades in high school but just aren't good testers. Just make sure to have every other component of your app solid. Interviews, essays, recs, all that stuff is gonna be a lot more important, probably.
