i skipped a grade, should i ever mention that/will it help in any way?

i prob shouldnt even bother applying to brown, but it is my DREAM school and i would like to know if i have anyyyy hope!!!

thanks and if you dont have something nice to say or you dont have expereience at good schools, dont even bother answering.

DEFINITELY apply. And if possible, I’d highly recommend you get your SATs and grades up a bit. As for skipping a grade, I think much of that depends on what grade you skipped - it’s a big deal to skip, for example, sophomore year of high school. If you skipped kindergarten, adcoms probably are not going to care.

You have a solid application, but I’d try to avoid having your heart set on Brown exclusively. I know you don’t want “not nice” comments on here, but honestly, getting into an Ivy League school these days is very, very competitive. As someone who “has experience at good schools,” I would honestly say that your actual shot at getting into Brown is low (sorry). So in conclusion, yes, apply to Brown! But find some other, easier-to-get-into schools to apply to as well.

Thanks! By nice I meant honest haha but this was helpful(:

i agree with couchpotato109 but if you get above 2250 on your SAT, its worth applying. My GPA was a little bit higher than yours but i was still accepted.(even tho i didn’t go) good luck!

It’s a high reach, sorry. But some things that would help:
higher SATs
get a 4.0 this coming semester (in tough courses!)
Try to show how one or 2 of your ECs are “in depth”, not just “some time” (ie leadership role, or extra time and effort)
(ps, being from GA helps.)
definitely have alternatives that you are also happy with that are more “likely”. But I almost never say never if you want to reach for a high hope, there is little to lose if you have realistic "safe(er) " alternative choices.
(Some interesting ones for you to consider: Amherst, Kenyon, U of the South, New College, Haverford)

do they like it if you apply early or should i wait to get better grades and apply reg???

If you’re going to apply early, you need to be really sure about Brown and about your financial status.

at my high school, we have a program that has tracked where kids have gone and applied to colleges - really helpful - but anyway, what ive noticed is that your grades and scores are really just a starting point. so if your school really is tougher, and since youve taken many ap classes, colleges will see that and consider it. kids from my school who’ve applied to brown have gotten 29, 31, and 33 act scores, and it in no way determines if you get in - many more have been denied. you also should be sure if brown is right for you - when i visited, i loved the freedoms and cooperativity of the school- but thats not for everyone. just show that youre really dedicated and have those qualities, because if you feel its a good school for you its always worth applying.

Does my kid have a chance at Brown? He will be a senior next year. PSAT 224 SAT M 790 CR 740 W 800. Unweighted GPA 3.7 California Art Scholar, Community Service in Costa Rica, internship at major research lab, president Latin Club and current events club. Published poet since 2nd grade. Active in school lit journal and school newspaper. National Latin Exam summa, xC team three years, varsity track

To Kisocean:
since you are new here, just helpful advice:
Post your question as a new thread (not in existing path)
You may want to let your student navigate this, as interest from the student is one thing he will have to show in the application process. (and he can start talking to other current students too.)
That said, Brown is hard to predict. His interest in Brown will be part of the equation. SATs look good. (PSAT sort of disappears in relavance after SATs.) GPA a bit low, but hard to know without knowing school and classes. Track and Latin a bit of a plus, as is the internship maybe. Brown seems to look for depth and commitment of involvement in the extracurricular items (ECs) more than number or titles.
