Should I bother applying?

I am a junior, currently looking at schools to apply next year. I am really interested in politics and history, and I am seriously considering schools in the DC area, (Georgetown, GW), as well as Michigan, William and Mary, Colgate, and a few other possibilities. At this point, Georgetown is my biggest reach. I am really curious if it is really worth it to apply-my test scores are strong but my grades are mediocre. Anyway, here are my stats.

SAT 1- 2130, first time, am taking again this year
SAT 2- 720 USH, am taking Lit, Math 1 and Chem 1 in june
ACT- haven't got my scores back but when I practiced last year I got a 32
GPA- 4.1 weighted (I know this is low for Gtown)-my school doesn't keep unweighted but I think it will be around a 3.75 ish as of this semester.
AP/IB- APUSH (5, sophomore), AP Micro/Macro (this year), IB 20th century Euro (This year, though a senior class), AP level english (my school offers this junior year, you take the real AP senior year), Next Year- AP stats, AP Gov, AP psych, AP Lit, IB Environmental Systems, IB 20th Century Asia

Extracurriculars:
-Varsity crew team (started sophomore year), Lightweight varsity, maybe a captain next year
-Student group on race relations (4 years)-education based club, a HUGE thing at my school. 200 volunteer hours from this
-Junto-current events based club focusing on discussion and awareness
-National Institute for American History and Democracy at William and Mary-history class with college credit last summer, got an A.
-National History Day-huge projects for competition at local and state level

Awards:
-National Latin Exam: Cum Laude level 1 and 2, Summa Cum Laude level 3
-National Merit-semifinalists haven't been announced but based on my score I should definitely qualify
-National History Day-1st place district 3 2011, State Runner Up 2011, competing again this year
-Honor roll
-National Etymology exam-silver medal

I also volunteer at my local film festival every year, should get another 100 hours for that.

I come from a competitive public school in Ohio, and I think I'm probably in the top ten percent, but that is only a guess.
I have strong essays and recommendations- and I think I would come off well in an alumni interview. Oh, and I am a white female.
I would probably apply to the College
No real hooks, other than that my rowing coach went to georgetown (he won dad vail in 1969, and his oar is in the tombs!) and he made me want to go haha

Heck yeah you should apply! (The Tombs - that brings back memories.) Go Hoyas!

I had a lower GPA (both weighted and unweighted) than you have, and I got in. I think you definitely have a decent shot of getting in. My only advice to you is to really work on those essays – I maintain that that was what got me in. Show them that you have a passion, show them that you’re driven, and you will have a strong app.

You should absolutely apply. Not applying is the only way to guarantee you won’t get accepted. And if you love the school, it’s a no brainer.
Good luck!

Your test scores are in range. Do what you can for your grades as GU loves those in the top of their class. Our S got into the College with a 2140 SAT/33 ACT, SAT subject tests in the 660 - 770 range, a good interview and excellent essays and EC’s/leadership positions and no hooks.

Good luck!
