Hi, I am a freshman at UVa, and I'm thinking about transferring but I'm not exactly sure it would be worth it, or if its for the right reasons. So maybe some of you could tell me how reasonable this sounds?
I guess my #1 reason for wanting to transfer is that I don't love it. I can't even pinpoint what about it I don't love, I have just been finding that I am rarely very happy here (I guess if I had to pick something it would be that the school seems a bit too conservative for me. I came to college hoping for lots of diversity and new ways of thinking). Don't get me wrong, I don't HATE it. If I did, I would be transferring without a doubt, but I'm wondering if just not loving it is enough of a reason. I started thinking about this when I went home for thanksgiving, and saw all my high school friends. Most of them seem to really enjoy their schools, and I felt weird because it seemed like I was the only one who didn't share that feeling. I'm pretty sure I annoyed them after a while because I complained about UVa just as much as they praised their colleges.
Another thing I'm thinking about is that UVa was never my top choice. In fact, it was pretty far down the list. As soon as I was rejected by my top choices (Penn, Cornell, Johns Hopkins) I promised myself that I would try to transfer into one of them as soon as possible. So right now I'm thinking I might as well try to transfer there, if I don't get in then I'll deal with UVa, and if I do get in I will think more about whether or not I really want to transfer there next year.
I know first semester grades are pretty important for transferring, and I don't know them for sure yet, but I am fairly confident I will have (best case scenario) straight As or (worst case scenario) 2Bs and 4 As. My classes are: Intro to Anthropology, Intro to Comparative Politics, Intro to Eastern Religions, Intro to Chem, Intro Chem Lab, and Intro Bio Lab. If I don't end up with the straight As, should I even bother transferring?

Should I eat this Pie or should I not eat this pie?

I say you should eat it. The most important part of being at college is enjoying it(while studying of course). Many people transfer out because they expected something else. You’re reasons are fair and simple. Of course transferring also depends on your High school and college G.P.A, E.C’s, SAT’s, blah blah blah… Go for it!!! :)

Maybe help me out please?
