Should I bother trying to transfer to McGill?

Hi, so far I've completed a year at NYU's LSP program. I'm hoping to transfer to McGill's faculty of arts next year as an international student but I'm worried that my college GPA is going to make me ineligible for consideration. My GPA is 2.92 and they say that you need at least a 3.0. The reason why it's so low is because I was only offered the abroad campus's for freshman year and did terribly at the mandatory French course (I had to take 6 credits a semester), I've always been bad at languages but I didn't think I'd need to transfer out. Without it my GPA would be 3.4 (A's and B's in everything else) but I'm worried they'll just take one look at the 2.92 and dismiss it. They don't seem to place much value on recs or anything. My high school grades are better; 36 IB score all 6's in my Higher levels. Any advice on how to spin this application would be good.
