Should I bother with submitting recs to UT (Cockrell)?

Hey everyone. I’ll be applying to the Cockrell school this year (Aero first choice, MechE second). I noticed that UT doesn’t have a system within Apply Texas to submit recs online, so I’d have to ask my two teachers to mail it themselves. Should I just leave the rec out for Cockrell? Here are my stats.

In state resident
GPA: 4.0 UW, 4.6 W, 3/620 class rank
SAT: 2290 (730 CR, 770 M, 790 W)
SAT II: 800 Math 2, 800 Chemistry, 780 USH
Hooks: African-American (if that’s one?)

Could sending them help me in any way? Such as for scholarships, financial aid and such?

EDIT: And why don’t public Texas schools just switch over to the common app? It’d make life so much easier…

Have you teachers email their recommendations to you and then you can upload them electronically. When you get your UT my status page there is a tab for your documents and you can upload them that way. That is what I did for my recs last year.

You have great stats but if you have recommendations I would upload them. For the things you can control I wouldn’t leave anything to chance.

@K20903 Thank you! The thing is, I’ve waived my FERPA rights, so I’m technically not supposed to be able to see my recs.

@neoking , there is a system on Apply Texas for teachers Recs. You need to ask your teachers first to make sure they’ll give you a good rec. Then add their email addresses into the system. The system will send them the instruction to upload their Recs. Do Not get your teachers Recs personally and send them in. I do not believe they will be considered at all that way. (forgery, conflict, privacy issues)

Last year when our DD applied, we were told to upload the teacher recs ourselves. Our DD is a freshman at UT now so it was fine. Our 2nd DD is applying this year, and we uploaded the teacher recs this year just like last year.
