Should I bring a safe/lockbox to college?

My family does not have a lot of money to afford new electronics and whatnot, and the main reason why I want to keep it into a lockbox is that I can't afford a new one.
I although do not want to look like I'm weird or something-just because I was the only person in college who brought a safe, or maybe it will make me look like I'm too precautions and not fun for some reason.

It will only be a laptop, maybe tablet, and possibly a watch. I don't have insurance for these items.

Thanks :)

I got a safety box for both of my girls in college for their jewelries and important documents (passport).
You may want to look into dorm insurance. I don’t think it is very expensive. It will cover theft and electronic breakage.

Get a lock box. I have one. Best thing ever. I don’t care if I look crazy. My valuables are safe.

Additionally, it won’t only be your laptop, tablet, and watch. Consider putting in your ID, checks and cards, passport, and confidential forms in there as well.

Oh yes, completely forgot about confidential forms. I guess I will try to get a lockbox :slight_smile:

We got something similar to this which can be locked with a padlock. Not too expensive and good for packing and storage under the bed.

Just don’t bring anything that looks too extreme, and don’t lock all your things (except your most valuable things ) in it. You really don’t want to make it seem like you don’t trust your roommate.

@theCat

That really shouldn’t be a concern at all. There are plenty of other ways in which your belongings could be taken from your dorm. If your roomate doesn’t understand that, then that is his or her problem. Honestly, I wouldn’t bring more than something very simple. But if the OP, say, had a lot of valuables, I wouldn’t worry about offending anybody.

I purchased college property insurance for DS.

Filing a Claim;

It was $126 for the year. It covers theft plus Accidental Damage. While he hasn’t used it at least I know if some one steals his computer or he drops his cell phone it will be covered. There are other companies that sell the same thing.

Check and see if theres a lockable desk drawer in your room. I have one and it works just fine. Make sure your roommate and you are on the same page in regards to locking the door when youre gone for more than a few minutes.
