Should I bring my car?

yes, I taked to them and the castilian garage opens to fall residents each year in July. They assign spaces first to whomever is living there and needing a space and then they begin to sell what’s left to the public. They usually fill the garage by late August but then more spaces open again in the Spring – because they do accept a few Fall-ony leases there – for people studying abroad i guess.

That’s good news. You’ve been very helpful!

The Castilian garage would be a very convenient place for someone living in Duren or Whitis or Kinsolving or the honors dorms to park.

That’s good to know. Thanks.

Oh, also consider that Texas will begin having ZipCar on campus starting this summer, which is a sort of carsharing service. They’re’ still hammering out the details, but they say Summer 2009. This may be a cheaper/better/worse option for you, depending on your needs.

I have seen the zipcars on other campuses. It’s a great idea. My son wants his car on campus so that he can come home occasionally. He also has friends at other schools in Texas that he’d like to visit.

what’s a zipcar?

Zipcar is a sort of carsharing service. You can visit their website at [Zipcar](http://www.zipcar.com/</a>)

I think you have to be 21 or older to use zipcar, unfortunately for some younger college students.

^

“You only need to be 18+ to join. Members age 18-20 can use a dedicated group of Zipcars that live on campus. Members age 21+ also have access to thousands of Zipcars all around the world.”

Zircushio is correct. You need only be 18+ to be able to use zipcar for universities.

Bring your car if you are willing to pay for parking. I have had my car since I started. It cost over $500 to park in the Trinity garage over a summer semester and this was the cheapest garage at the time and it was cheaper than the Fall/Spring rates. It will be quite a lot more for the true school year in a closer garage. If you live off campus that has parking then bring a car but if you live on campus or near a bus route just take the bus or walk. If you really hate the idea of waiting/taking a bus then buy a scooter. Parking is $60 bucks for the YEAR, not semester, and you can park closer than the garages to most areas of campus.

I will be bringing my car to UT next year, and I will use it about once or twice a month to go out of town. But other than that, I won’t use it at all in the city or anything. Where should I park? I am willing to park in a garage across the freeway. Where is the cheapest place my car can sit at? Oh and I am living on campus, I don’t know if that changes my options

Thanks

Big NO-NO. I went to an info session and the lady talking to us told us it was not a good idea at all.

Also Austin has a high car-jacking rate.

Don’t buy a scooter–you will get laughed at. If you want a car that can use an M permit, buy a motorcycle.

you don’t really need a car if you live on campus or one of the dorms near campus (across the street). Having a car is only necessary really if you are going home on weekends and such. Plus, I don’t know about car jacking being high but crooks seek our students car’s to try to steal their radios, gps, etc. So if you bring a car, hide your stuff no matter where you park it around the campus area.
