Im afraid of getting these stolen

Has anyone ever brought any valuable items to their dorms?

yes, acoustic, yes, no.

If you and your roommates lock your doors you shouldn't have any problems with theft.

Last year we had three laptops, two TVs (there were two rooms), a Playstation2, Guitar Hero, other games, 3 ipods, a stereo, etc, and nothing was stolen.

the chances of theft depend on the area your school is in, the other students, and how good you and your roomie will be about locking the door. But I say to your items:

yes
whichever, but only if you'll play it regularly because they eat up a lot of space
yes, a small tv
No, get a laptop. They're more easily transported and take up less space on your desk

I would bring an Xbox 360, the electric guitar, a large TV, and a large monitor, as long as you have the space, your room isn't the center of numerous parties and random people at all hours of the night, and you trust your roommate.

I'd guess that around 80% of the people attending college have large, external monitors. For the first couple of years of college, I basically did what you're advocating; stuck with the laptop, since it was easier to move back and forth.

However, I've recently gotten a large, high-definition monitor, and never understood how I survived without one. The quality is simply breath-taking, and I can always use my old, half-broken high school laptop when I visit home.

Bring the big monitor if it's a flatscreen. I'd recommend against bringing a CRT, as those things take up a LOT of space.

Yeah, commonsense is correct; I should have mentioned that it's almost mandatory the monitor be a flatscreen.

but if it's fat, who's going to steal it?

LOL i had a crt because my mother refused to buy me a flat screen last yr (my dad told me he was going to buy me one so i wasn't worried and then =_= yeah) so yeah its a bad idea. It's effin' huge and take up alot of space.
