I'm taking BIPN 100 with Fortes and BICD 110 with Wilhelm right now and I'm wondering if I really need to buy the textbook for these two classes. I'm planning on going to all the lectures and section once a week for these classes, as well as podcasting material I don't understand very well. I don't mind using course reserves once in a while and I don't even mind buying A.S. lecture notes but I'd really really rather not buy two expensive textbooks if I can help it (as was the case in several other classes I've taken). If you've taken the class with these professors did you feel that buying the book really made a difference?

I think the real question is if you are willing to play jeopardy with your grades.

One thing you might consider is that the textbook for BIPN 100 is also used for BIPN 102 and the textbook for BICD 110 is also used for BIMM 100. So you would technically be splitting the cost between 2 classes if you are already planning on also taking those classes sometime in the future.

Please don’t assume I don’t take my grades seriously. As I already mentioned, I’m willing seriously dedicate time and money to this class if there is even an inkling of a chance that I might get a better grade. However it’s also not uncommon to waste $200+ on a textbook you never even look at the entire quarter as has been the case with me more than several times. Not all of us have the luxury to spend money on expensive items that may or may not “jeopardize” our grades.

Otherwise I thank you for your advice and information.

Have you checked half.com? Usually it’s way cheaper
