I applied to the University of Texas-Austin and their Honor School out of state in early October. On the honors application it said if you applied before a certain date (which I did), you were likely to hear back before Christmas break (but no guarantees). Now I know I need to be patient, and that they have thousands of applications to go through, but based on their admissions page, I'm only guaranteed an answer by March. The problem is, for my other schools I have been accepted to (my safety schools), I need to give them an answer by March, and my mom doesn't want to take me to visit them until I hear back from UT (with cost of plane tickets and all). So that's only about 2 months to arrange a trip and make a decision.

ANYWAY, I've heard of some people who have called their University and they admissions counselors have given them a "yes" or "no" right on the phone. My mom really wants me to do this but I'm not sure, I feel like that would sound pushy, I don't want to ruin my chances with my top choice school.

Has anyone had any success with this? Any advice?
