Should I cancel, retake, or stay?

The first time I took the SAT, my score was CR/M/W 720/710/700, and my goal schools are Johns Hopkins and Carnegie Mellon.

I retook October 6th, and while I felt good leaving the test center, I felt like I did worse on the writing and worse on the reading. In addition, I know from threads here that I got the triangle problem wrong (#10?) and I think I got the (x+3)(x-8) problem wrong (I said - 8). So probably 2 wrong.

But considering the fact that I haven't analyzed everything, I probably got even more math problems wrong.

Should I rush to cancel my scores since colleges might see it as bad that I retook it and did worse. Should I just wait it out and see what happens? Or should I cancel the scores and then retake in December since I'm not applying EA/ED?

If I did well enough the first time, would colleges hold it against me if I did worst the second time?

Not sure, but they could interpret that information as you got lucky the first time around.

fyi: if you cancel your scores, it will still be noted on the scores sheet that you canceled your October scores.

The second time I took my SAT’s, I was freaking out the second night b/c I saw all the answers I got wrong through CC. I came so close to canceling my score, but ended up being too lazy to find a fax. Turns out I actually did 100+ in my second SAT. So I think you should just have faith in what you did. Besides canceling now would mean such a waste of money and you’ll spend the rest of your life wondering how you did on that one SAT. well, maybe not, but you get the idea :D

Unless your scores drop significantly, the colleges won’t care much. Usually, you’ll have a score jump in at least one section.

Yeah, I’m not gonna cancel. I just saw that I got two wrong and then I started panicking. Last time I took it I got 4 wrong, which is pretty good by my standards.

I might have a small score drop, but I doubt it will be serious. Math might even be a small (40-50 point) improvement.

And finally, I have no inclination that I “bombed” it, although I felt really unsure about a whole bunch of the writing questions.

But really, I’ve decided that if I keep obsessing over it I’ll drive myself insane (more than I already have).
