Should I change foreign languages going into sophomore year?

rising sophomore in high school

I’m changing schools (to an IB school) and in my freshman year, I took Mandarin 1 (got great grades but am not good at it).

However, due to scheduling conflicts I have to either give up an elective I’m interested in to take my Mandarin class (2nd level class) or I can take my elective but start Spanish (as a beginner).

In need of advice!

Backstory: I learned french through elementary/middle school, but wasn’t taught at either high schools (planning on taking sat subject test and self-studying for AP French)

(not sure if this is the right forum, if not apologies!)

It’s fine to take a different language. Look carefully at your potential schools. Most require two years of a language, some three, and many fewer four years (it may be worded like students with four years have more consideration). The schools that expect four years tend to be the most competitive for admission.
