Should I change from Biology to Microbiology?

Hi, right now I’m a freshman in biology on a pre-med track. I’ve been looking over the course requirements for gen bio vs the course requirements for micro and I realized that I’m wayyy more interested in micro stuff like immunology and virology, instead of boring stuff like plants and evolution. Is micro more difficult? Does it look better when trying to get into med school?

I was a MIcro major and I had to take more Chemistry than the General Biology major. Check the school’s curriculum and it you are OK with the amount of Chemistry courses, then change your major. Being interested in the classes you are taking will help you do well in these courses.

One major vs. other major for Medical school will not make a difference. Pick the major where you think you can get a great GPA, covers the Medical School course requirements and is good as a backup just in case Medical school does not happen.

Better grades often follow stronger interests. It is not just memorizing material.
