I applied Early Action to NEU for Biology, but now looking into it I should've probably applied for Health Sciences as I plan on becoming a PA. Should I ask to change my major to Health Sciences now, or would that be harder to get into and ruin my chances of getting into NEU? (if I even have any, lol) If I end up getting to NEU through Biology, how hard would it be to transfer to Health Sciences?

STATS: 1900 SAT, 3.92 gpa (unweighted; 4.21 weighted), I'm involved in musicals, plays, NHS, Student Council, EBoard, Peer Tutoring, Dance and Step Team, and I have a job outside of school. I'm taking 4 AP classes this year out of out ouf our 6 rquired classes (I'm enrolled in a small Catholic school, so religion is required. I also took Yearbook as my "fun" course - there were no more in person AP classes available :)) and then i have 1 study)

If you’ve applied EA, you won’t be changing your requested major before decisions come out. Admissions are done by college, but the university doesn’t release stats for each college separately. I don’t think there would be a big difference between College of Science and Bouve, though. If you are accepted, there will be an option on your accepted student portal to request a major change. It’s quite common, and I don’t know of anyone who’s had trouble requesting a change of major after acceptance.

That said, wanting to do PA school doesn’t necessarily mean you should switch to Health Science. I don’t know a lot about PA school, but I believe it’s along the lines of med school in terms of requirements: as long as you meet the pre-requisites, it doesn’t matter what your major is. There also sometimes seems to be some misconception about what “Health Sciences” is. It’s not a hard science major like biology, but it’s more focused on aspects like patient interaction, public health, and nutrition, for example. If that’s what you’re looking for, great. However, don’t choose it just because you think it’s what PA schools want.

Thank you for replying! You’re right, I didn’t know much about Health Sciences but my mom looked into it and said it was a “pre-professional” program, so she recommended it. I guess it really doesn’t matter which major I go into, as long as I have all of my prerequisites done, lol. I’m better off sticking with Biology. Thanks again!
