This is my schedule for next year. I’m taking all the most difficult classes that I have not yet taken, but my school doesn’t really offer many course selections and we are especially lacking in honors and AP courses. I’m taking:
AP Biology
AP Calc. (we only have 4 AP’s, and I’ve already taken the other two)
Spanish 4
Chemistry
Wind Ensemble (top band group)
Humanities
Economics (1 semester, required)
Teacher’s Assistant (1 semester)… this isn’t set in stone, I can try to get into another semester-long class, like an art class or something
My question is regarding the sciences. Will my schedule be more competitive to adcoms if I take Physics instead of Chemistry?? I only have room in my schedule for one or the other, unless I want to drop Spanish or Humanities but I really enjoy those subjects and don’t want to drop them (both are among the most difficult classes at my school, so that’s not the issue). So… Physics or Chemistry… any opinions??

You are taking both AP Bio and Chem in 12. What science classes did you take in 9-11?

9th -- physical science (required)
10th -- general biology (required)
11th -- Human Anatomy and Physiology (1 semester, got college credit)
12th -- AP Bio, and Physics or Chem.

a lot of my friends took Chemistry last year, but since I had 2 AP's my schedule was too full last year to take Chem. I don't know... my school is weird with scheduling... we don't really have a certain science track you have to take, just a certain number of science credits. So I've just been picking the most difficult classes... some of our sciences classes are major slack classes, but not the ones above.

bump. any suggestions? physics vs. chemistry?

Ideally a person takes one class each year from the following five categories: English, Math, Science, Social Studies and Foreign Lang. I would not drop Spanish 4. The normal science sequence is Bio, Chem and Physics. You've stayed more in the Bio arena. It would make a little more sense to take chem next and I don't think it would matter to adcoms either way.
