Should I change the entire FAFSA from married to separated?

no, you only list your mother. IF it's just you and her, your #66 answer is 2

don't put your father's income on worksheet b if they are separated, someone correct me if I'm wrong about that....

Correct. Your dad should **not **be included in number in family. None of his income or assets should be included anywhere on FAFSA if they are separated.

Now if you are going to a profile school all your dad's info will be required by them.

And your brother should not be included in family number either.

For the FAFSA, I thought you didn't report ANY income or assets for the non-custodial parent. So if your dad is your non-custodial parent, you would not report his assets or income (PLEASE...someone correct me if I'm wrong).

I'm confused...you want to list your dad as a non-custodial parent but you also want to count him as a member of YOUR household? I don't believe you can do both. If your dad is your non-custodial parent, that means he does NOT live with you...or you with him. He is not a member of your household. He WOULD be if you were completing this having your parents married. AGAIN...someone correct me if I'm wrong.

You need to check the Profile website and the school to find out if they want the non-custodial parent form. Some do, and some don't (believe it or not).

Your situation is VERY confusing and may actually better be answered by a call to the finaid office at the school or to the FAFSA phone line.

swimcatsmom and sueinphilly, thank you very much for clearing that up for me. Except, for #66, they ask to include both parents, even if they live apart.

no, they don't want the info (income/assets) on both parents unless you are saying they are married.

No they don't. Question 66
The following persons are included in your parents' household size:

* You (the student), even if you do not live with your parents

** * Your parents (the ones whose information is reported on the FAFSA)**
Your Dad's info is not on FAFSA. SO you do not include him.
If your parents are divorced (or separated - see below for more information*), answer the questions about the parent you lived with more during the 12 months preceding the date you complete the FAFSA.* If you did not live with one parent more than the other, give answers about the parent who provided more financial support during the 12 months preceding the date you complete the FAFSA or during the most recent year that you actually received support from a parent. If this parent has remarried as of the date you fill out the FAFSA, answer the questions on the remaining sections of the FAFSA about that parent and the person he or she married (your stepparent).

If your parents are legally separated, the same rules that apply for a divorced couple are used to determine which parent's information must be reported. A couple doesn't have to be legally separated in order to be considered separated for purposes of the FAFSA. The couple may consider themselves informally separated when one of the partners has permanently left the household. If the partners live together, they can't be considered informally separated.

Okay, thank you very much!

If your Dad sents money to support your mom and you, that money should be included in the ohter income catagory- similarly to alimony/child support

I wasn't sure whether to include that as child support, because it's not just specifically for children, but just to support the family. I guess that's alimony. So where is that in the FAFSA/Profile?
