Should I check "Undecided" on the application?

So I'm filling out Part I of the Columbia application. There's a section that asks for "three academic areas of interest that you would consider at Columbia" as well as "possible career after schooling."

I really love English and history, and I'm thinking of going into law, but the big question is: should I put that down in the application?

I read in a book (Hernandez's "Acing the College Application) that it's better to put "undecided" if the majors I'm interested in are popular, and I'm definitely sure that English and history are among the most popular majors at Columbia, next to econ and psych, so more people will want to go into those fields, and the more competition there is.

So I will be better off checking off "undecided" on my application instead of English and history?

THANKS!!!

i have the same question.. I'm interested in Political Science as well as History. Don't know if I should put that down or leave it undecided..

do not put undecided. i was advised by an officer in the admit office to indicate a potential major, even if its just general interest.

colleges, and columbia, expect students to change their major. put down whatever you are interested in, as that will likely be the focus of your application anyway.

Hmm thanks Casey2889. I guess I'll put down English and history, since, as you said, they're kind of the focus of my application anyway.
