Should I Choose Computer Science?

Hi.

I’m a freshman, and it seems my interests keep fluctuating as to what major I want to choose. I’m considering Computer Science because I have a great interest in computers and technology since I was very young.

I am not the best at Math and it can be difficult for me; however, I know with practice I can become decent.

I have never done programming, and I am exploring if Computer Science as a possible option. For someone who has no prior knowledge and experience in coding, what computer programming book should I obtain? How long will it take for me to find out it’s not for me?

Thanks!

Take an introductory programming class at your school and see if you like it. I don’t think reading a book and trying a few things out is a realistic way to determine if programming is for you.

I was the same way with math. I hated it and was bad at it until I took an Applied Calculus class and discovered that there were actually uses for math. That’s not something you get in most math classes that bore students to death with proofs and pointless letter juggling.

Why not just take the first CS course at your college and see if you are interested in it?
