Should I choose Journalism Junior year?? AP Psychology or AP Biology?!!?

Does it help a lot with college admissions? I'm just worried that my ECs will look bad. I want to get accepted into a UC. :( Also I'm not too happy about waking up for 0 period.

Sophomore year I'm taking:
Journalism (MAYBE, I dunno if I'm that interested in it)
AP US History
Eng Language AP
Alg2/Trig or Pre-calculus, if I take Alg2/Trig this summer at a community college
Chemistry
AP Psychology or AP Biology I can't decide!!
Spanish 3 (I hate Spanish..)

7 periods! Is this course vigorous enough for UC Berkeley, UCLA...? Thanks!!

Don’t take something if you’re not interested in it. There’s a kid in my journalism class who really doesn’t like the class, who just took it because it’s supposed to be an “easy” class…and it reflects poorly on her. Don’t do stuff for college apps, do it because you like it.

Agreed with the statement above.
Do what you like and enjoy! &become the best at it.
What I’ve learned this year from graduating seniors are that it’s not about the amount of AP classes you take. It’s about how well you do and how all relates to your major. I have a friend who took total of 8 APs and ended with around 3.2 gpa. He got into uci honors and few uc’s but not too sucessful. Meanwhile my other friend only took 2 APs but Aced all of her classes with like few B’s. She got into UCLA, UCI honors, UCSD honors etc. She was only rejected from berekely and its probably cause she didnt have strong ec’ so focus on that too.
I’ve heard pych itself is much easier than bio.
In fact I’ve heard they are both very simple thus ill be taking them too next year haha
Id say pych because having chem AND bio is pain in the ass. I’ve seen my friends trying to do that. and journalism is cool! only if you are interested in it…and make sure to get editor in cheif position to show your leadership ability

Hi,

It seems that you really want to go to a University of California school [Hoping you’re not talking about Colorado or CT]. They use something called an Academic Index [Google: UC Acadmic Index] to see if you are a good applicant. Input your scores and grades and see if you are a good candidate. The system overweights AP courses, so try taking them

And about AP classes, here is how it breaks down:

AP Biology
-Very hard class
----- I recommend Campbell and Reece Biology [6th Edition], very large book, but good
-More ‘prestigous’ [Meaning colleges will think it to be harder/better than most other AP’s]
-More likely to gain benefits [Testing out of Intro to Bio, credit or awards]

AP Psychology
-Very easy class [I once took a practice exam without reading anything and got a 3]
-Easy to study for [I recommend 5 Steps to a 5: AP Psychology]
-More likely to get a 5/higher score on

Good Luck
