Hi guys I got accepted to temple recently and I originally slated it as my safety but after doing some research, I'm seriously considering going. I'm a suburban kid from connecticut so would it be worth going all the way to philadelphia. The city intrigues me but I'm a little worried about safety because it's in a bad area. Is this really a big issue? My overall question is would it be worth going to temple. I'm going for a major in political science and a minor in general business. If any alumni or current students could help me out it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Also in regards to safety, I’m assuming I’m going to be staying on campus a majority of the time and when I leave it will be to explore center city which I know is a safe area. I know there’s a subway stop either on or next to campus. Seeing as there really is no reason to wander off campus into the “ghetto” I should be relatively safe then correct?

correct. the campus is safe.

as anywhere else you go, your safety is dependent often on what you do and how you behave. do you travel in groups? do you go off-campus intoxicated? do you travel everywhere with earbuds in place and staring down at your iPhone as you walk? or do you have your head up and on a swivel? You have to behave sensibly wherever you live, OP. You are much more likely to be assaulted by someone you know than someone you’ve never met.

and ask some of the students in the Temple forum. btw, I grew up in Philly and my mother-in-law got her degree from Temple in her late 60s.
