Should I choose to live in a dorm with community style bathrooms?

I have a choice between having my own bathroom with a roommate, but five minutes away from campus and having a community style bathroom on campus and in the newest dorms. i know community bathrooms are cleaned daily, but my main concern is people throwing up all the time. Does that happen often?

Unless you get plopped in one of the biggest party dorms at a big party school, no. I’ve lived in three buildings with community style bathrooms and only saw vomit once (this was due to a flu outbreak in my building).

It never happened when I lived in the dorms. The dorm bathrooms were cleaner then when I lived off campus.

I’d say go for the community style bathrooms on campus.

DS’s suite (which has several single/double bedrooms and a common living area) in the freshman year has their own bathroom which they need to clean by themselves. A few month after the school was started, the condition of the bathroom (and the common living area) were in a mess because they forgot to bring their “maid” (parents) from the home. In-the-room bathroom is over-rated.

And yes, in the sophomore year, they needed to clean up the bathroom after the party quite often. And it was not a communal bathroom. Also, the long hair (esp. from girls) clogged the drain quite often. Fortunately, one of DS’s suitemates knows how to unclug it (and he always keeps a set of tools and is a “handyman” for many of his male/female friends.)
