Should I choose UF, FSU, UCF, or USF?

I have been accepted to UF, UCF, and USF. I will hear from FSU on March 20th, but I’m pretty sure I will get in.

Anyway, which university should I choose to go to?

Major: accounting

Obviously we all know that UF is the best school, and UF is my first choice.
But I also want to consider the finances.

UCF is offering me $14K.
USF is offering me $17K.

I will know whether UF offers me any scholarships by the end of March, which is a while to wait. I heard that they pretty much only give Presidential Scholarships to minorities. I’m half White and half Dominican, so I don’t know whether that qualifies as a “minority.” My stats are below, but there are a lot of other people with stats like mine. Soooo… I dunno.

My high school is ranked #60 in the country.
So colleges know my school by name.
Dozens of my classmates have been accepted to UF.
Rank: 38/320
GPA: 3.8
HPA: 4.6
SAT: 1890
ACT: 30
AP Classes: 10 (passed all exams)
Dual Enrollment Credits: 3

A part of me is saying that even if UF doesn’t offer me any scholarships, I think UF is worth a $15K difference. I qualify for 100% Bright Futures, may get some financial aid help, and maybe a $5K scholarship from my dad’s employer company.

UF has a 3/2 program for accounting majors, which means that I can get my Master’s in 5 years. With a Master’s, I will have enough credits (150) to sit for the Certified Public Accountant Exam. But, with all my AP credits and what not, I can get my Master’s in Accounting within 4 years.

So basically I’m asking…should I weigh my hopes of attending UF based on the possibility of receiving a scholarship?

But, does UF have a significantly better accounting program? Better contacts and open doors for when I graduate? A degree from UF has more weight than a degree from FSU/UCF/USF, right?

The answer in the real world is no.

I think if you choose between UF and FSU you’ll be somewhat better off than the regional schools but this has more to do with name recognition. You may also enjoy the more traditional college environment than the more commuter-oriented schools.

If you pass the CPA exam no one will care where you went to school.

Don’t write off USF’s School of Accountancy. Master’s of Accountancy graduates from USF each year have one of the highest pass rates for colleges and universities nationwide for CPA exams. Too, USF teaches accounting students how to think like an accountant, enabling them to be successful in all future business environments. When you take into account USF’s $17,000 scholarship and look at your bottom line, USF might make the most financial sense for you.
This spring term 2013, student enrollment at USF’s Tampa campus included: students from 65 of Florida’s 67 counties; over 2500 students from other U.S. states; over 2100 international students representing 149 countries. Over 80% of USF’s freshmen live in dorms on campus. USF’s reach extends beyond the 4 million resident Tampa Bay metro region; not everyone attending USF is a commuter.

Personally I would say go to USF because of the money (assuming you feel no particular love for any of the schools). Personally I don’t like UF because every time I go (my sister goes there) they seem to have a sense of “hey we’re UF, we’re the best.” And it’s just UF they aren’t harvard but they think they are so much better than other universitys around.

Hey what school did you end up picking? I go to UCF and i get 19K a year( split over the 2 semesters). We had the same stats except your SAT were 40 points higher than mine and i was 50/650ish and i didnt get in. I really wanted to go because my brother got in 5 years pervious to when i applied with much lower stats. I was shocked when i didnt get in but realized he did early action, which no longer was around when i applied in class of 2012.
