I've been accepted into both the VA and the Costume Design programs at SUNY Purchase College, and unfortunately have to choose only one of these things to major in do to the intensity of the programs. I'm extremely torn because I love both painting/sculpture/printmaking ect. and costume design/ the theater scene.
Can anyone give me some insight on:
what life is like for a student in these majors-?
what types of courses would I be taking-?
what jobs I could get after graduating from the VA or the Theater Design/Tech programs-?
Types of internships-?
which degree gives me better odds of getting a job (if you can throw some percentages at me that would be great)
Is there any possibility of taking classes in both conservatories and still graduating in 4 years?
basically, which is a wiser investment of my time and money?
I'm in the process of making a pro/con list and I need as much info as I can get. Thank you!

Hi,
I know you probably already made your decision about which conservatory to attend, however, I HOPE that you chose the The Theatre Design and Stage Tech conservatory! I have just completed my freshman year in the program, and it is the BEST program on campus. All of the professors of the Freshman classes were very impressive and excellent teachers. This program has incredible connections, not only to Broadway but impressive theatre, film, and dance all around the world! Not to mention, having the D/T program on your resume looks amazing because everyone knows about the quality of our training. If you chose the VA, I really think you should reconsider. After only completely my freshman year in the program, I feel that I have learned SO much and am well on my way towards becoming a theatre professional. If you do choose this program, be ready to work! D/T is a huge commitment, but it’s totally worth it because you are doing what you want to do. If you have been accepted into this program, I really suggest that you attend!!!
