I love both schools and got into both.
I am studying economics or international studies which Vanderbilt does not offer. Though, I still am not sure what I am going to study.

Please convince me that Washu is better choice for me.

This is a personal choice. WashU is stronger in econ, it also has better dorms, food and slightly more flexible in cirriculum. Student body is also a bit stronger.

Vandy will have better sports (Div I), huge party life and is more conservative in general.

Visit both with overnights.

well, if vanderbilt doesn't offer what you may be studying, you should probably go with washu. washu also has a better rep/prestige. i agree with dtan...visit both schools and see which one fits better.

WashU has a tremendous economics program. The faculty is top notch and they do a good job with graduate school preparation. As a recently admitted student interested in economics, all evidence points to WashU excelling there. Plus, the available coursework in econ is FANTASTIC.

*** vandy does offer econ and it is one of the best programs in the country...
also washu is overrated.

irap3pillows - For your information, WashU has just hired some of the top econ profs in the country. I assume you have something to back up the statement "also washu is overrated". Or is just another hear say statement thrown around by people who have no idea what they are talking about?

I would go with WashU, because it has a better ranking and most probably has a better economics program, especially when people do not know whether Vanderbilt has one ^^

Waternam, the OP is aware that Vanderbilt has an econ program, he (she) was referring to international studies. I would hope that anyone would know that Vanderbilt has an excellent econ program, and has quite a few economists at the Peabody School as well as in its econ department.

My H has been a professor of economics for several decades. It is his opinion that the econ. depts at both Wash U and Vanderbilt are excellent.

For the record, I have lived in several states as an adult, studied and taught at several universities and know many, many academic types from many fields. I will have to take exception to the statement that Wash. U has a better reputation or higher prestige factor overall. In fact, I wouldn't hesitate to make the opposite statement.

My son has been accepted to both schools, so I am not trying to denigrate Wash U in any way. The OP should visit both, look into the possibility of research if he (she) is interested. The surroundings of Wash U are, in my opinion, preferable in some ways to Vanderbilt, because of the proximity of Forest Park and the availability of public transportation (which I didn't see any of when we visited Vanderbilt).

Good luck making your decision, hereiam. Base your decision on something other than the opinions of students on the Wash U cc site, though.

hereiam, I also got into both Wash U and Vanderbilt, and may go into econ. This is a tough decision!! I have no idea... but I am going to visit Wash U overnight, and have already visited Vanderbilt

hahaha, I should have read the post properly sorry ^^
nevertheless, its better to go to WashU where it will provide you with both international studies and economics, so you'll still be able to decide on a major that you like.

Vandy's new dorms will not be ready for class of 2011. Freshman have to live in old dorms
