Suppose I get admission into both Wesleyan University and Carnegie Mellon University, with cost and location no issue, which one would would provide a better university experience but also prepare me well in regards to a Physics major?

Whichever school you’ll feel more at home is likely the one which will better prepare you.

This is going to sound a bit off the wall but…

I would look at the rankings and reputations of each of the schools’ business undergrad and MBA programs, along with the strength of the schools’ computer science departments. ;-)

I would look at how well the graduates who do NOT go on to grad/prof school do in terms of employment and salaries.

I would then try to figure out which companies recruit graduating seniors on each campus.

I apologize in advance for completely ignoring the fact that you want to major in physics.

I am a current student at Carnegie Mellon. I am in Mellon College of Science, so I can give some insight there. I love the advising and the set up of MCS, so I would say to definitely consider CMU strongly. While I am not a physics major, I know many who love the program. It is considered to be tough. But I feel as if that is physics at any university. Haha. Good luck with everything!

The physics curriculum is probably more or less the same in both schools. You will get an excellent preparation whichever one you choose. It really depends where you feel most comfortable, a liberal arts school or a technical institute.
